How to get here: From Portland,
plan a leisurely drive (about 4 hours) East through the spectacular beauty of
Oregon's scenic Columbia River Gorge. Turn South through fertile rolling hills
and wheatlands, through a pine-forested mountain pass, along the John Day River,
and enter the sage brush and rimrock country, site of one of the four most
